چکیده
Science Olympiads and contests brings spirit of competitiveness to Science education. They benefit best students, engage them with research. Simultaneously Science Olympiads and contests challenge faculty to enhance teaching so that regular student can enjoy Olympiad and contest problems. Computer Science contests become very popular with undergraduate students in recent years. Maybe the Association for Computing Machinery International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM ICPC) is the most popular world-wide. The initiative was born at early 1970-ies in US, then evolved to North America Computer Science competition, and was formally inaugurated in 1977 at the first World Final ACM ICPC. Overall number of participants of annual multi-level contests (at local, sub-regional, regional and final levels) is about several tens of thouthands from more than 1,300

Computer Science Contests for Secondary School Students: Approaches to Classification
The International Olympiad in Informatics currently provides a model which is imitated by the majority of contests for secondary school students in Informatics or Computer Science. However, the IOI model can be criticized, and alternative contest models exist. To support the discussion about contests in Computer Science, several dimensions for characterizing and classifying contests are suggested.
متن کاملMODELLING AND ANALYSIS OF A DISCRETE-TIME PRIORITY QUEUING COMPUTER NETWORK WITH PRIORITY JUMPS USING PROBABILITY GENERATING FUNCTIONS
Priority queues have a great importance in the study of computer communication networks in which different types of traffic require different quality of service standards. The discrete-time non-preemptive priority queuing model with priority jumps is proposed in this paper. On the basis of probability generating functions mean system contents and mean queuing delay characteristics are obtained....
متن کاملThe Effect of Different Deheating Processes on Residual Myrosinase Activity, Antimicrobial Properties and Total Phenolic Contents of Yellow Mustard (Sinapis alba)
ABSTRACT: Mustard is a natural multi-functional additive with strong hot flavor. In this research, powdered yellow mustard (Sinapis alba) was heated by 21 different thermal processes, statistically designed by Response Surface Methodology to evaluate the effects of combinations of heating media (hot air, hot water and steam) and heating time (0-20 min) on residual myrosinase activity, the minim...
متن کاملInformatics olympiads: Approaching mathematics through code
Many readers are familiar with the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), a pinnacle in the yearly calendar of mathematics competitions. Here we introduce its cousin in computer science, the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI). The International Olympiad in Informatics is one of the newer Science Olympiads, beginning in 1989 in Bulgaria under the leadership of Petar Kenderov. In its...
متن کاملGender and Programming Contests: Mitigating Exclusionary Practices
Individuals vary across many dimensions due to the effects of gender-based, personality, and cultural differences. Consequently, programming contests with a limited and restrictive structure (e.g., scoring system, questioning style) are most favourable and attractive to a specific set of individuals with the characteristics that best match this structure. We suggest that a more inclusive and fl...
